My daughter signed up for eight dance routines one year. I jokingly said to myself, "I have an octodancer." Then while observing all the dancers on stage, one behind the other, legs and arms outstretched like Shiva, the god with multiple arms, I thought the image reminded me of an octopus. The dancers' movements, the costume colours, and the way they adapt to the size of the stage—it all became a metaphor for life embodied in the symbol of a dancing octopus.
